We are fortunate to live in an area with a plethora of local musicians and venues that present live music and events. In some cases they are community-funded events such as street fairs, music and food festivals or they may be theaters, clubs, event centers or similar that will host events and charge an admission fee (cover) that is meant to cover costs of rent, security, staffing for the event and of course, the performers.Â
More often the venues where people experience live music are bars, restaurants, breweries, tasting rooms etc that will host live music as a way to ideally enhance the experience and bring in new and return customers. But these venues have similar overhead costs with the addition of product or food costs - and their primary goal is to sell that product or service and hopefully make a small profit so they can stay in business. So, adding in the cost of bringing in entertainment further affects their bottom line.
This is a very simple thing to understand - when you go into a business, they only make money if you spend it on what they sell. Seeing live music is a fringe benefit and it’s only supported by the money you spend there.
You support the music scene when you support the businesses that feature live music.
Thank you!!!
